There are also many other reasons why you’d want to rent a car, like when your own vehicle is getting repaired. Unfortunately, most car rental companies often work with credit cards as the main payment method. Also, renting a car will require an expensive outlay that you may not be willing to pay outright. So if you do not have a credit card or you don’t want to use one, renting a car can be more challenging than usual.

Here are some things you need to know about Beijing car rentals without VISA or MasterCard.

1. There are independent companies who are willing to accommodate cash only customers, though you really have to look. Before you make the rounds of the car rental companies in your location, search online first for which companies accept cash only rentals.
2. If you can’t find cash only rental cars in your area, perhaps you’d be willing to use a debit card as well. However, call ahead first to check. Clarify what kinds of debit cards are accepted. Some companies may accept debit cards but may also require a VISA or MasterCard logo. 
3. You will need to shell out on the spot for a down payment. So if you plan to rent a car in Beijing without VISA or MasterCard, make sure you’ve got extra money stowed for the car rental. If you’re traveling, make sure that you have a separate car hire money pool; otherwise, you might find yourself with very little pocket money left.
4. Be sure to have extra money still for the car rental insurance.
5. When you pay with a debit card or cash, you may be asked to pay a deposit, which you will get back once you return the vehicle. Deposits can be around $200.
6. Most rent-a-car companies put a limit on the types of vehicles you can rent without a credit card. These restrictions may differ for each company, but one thing’s for sure, you will probably not be able to rent luxury cars and specialty vehicles.
